  14. PipeDream is a wonderfully integrated package which can be used as a 
  15. wordprocessor, spreadsheet and database all within the same document.  
  16. Because it can do all these things at once its versatility makes 
  17. setting up a document seem more complicated than it really is.
  18.  
  19. If what you want to do in one document is mainly wordprocessing with a 
  20. few of the spreadsheet facilities included, then it is better to set 
  21. the File - Options differently from one which is to be used mainly as a 
  22. spreadsheet.  In particular, unnecessary difficulties about such things 
  23. as whether cells expect their first entry to be left aligned text or 
  24. right aligned numerical values arise because the File - Options have 
  25. been inappropriately set.

  27. Almost any set of Options can be preset by using a Macro - but, it is 
  28. unfortunate for the beginner that macros are a PipeDream facility best 
  29. tackled later rather than earlier in the learning process.  Robert has 
  30. provided a couple of macros, one where the options are more suited to a 
  31. Spreadsheet (called new_sheet) and one more suited to a wordprocessor 
  32. (called new_word).  To RUN a macro all you need to do is double click 
  33. with the mouse select (left) button on the macro and it will run 
  34. carrying out all its functions.  Try the macro new_word and you will 
  35. have a 'default' word processor document, double click on new_sheet and 
  36. you will have a default spreadsheet.  You may then change the Options 
  37. further if you wish but you will not be able to save your new Option 
  38. set as a changed new_word or new_sheet macro.  To change the macro you 
  39. need to learn a range of 'Editing macro' skills.
  40.  
  41. Finally, if you have a particular requirement for a 'Startup Macro' 
  42. which uses a set of File - Options that you like but, as yet, you 
  43. haven't the skill to write it, then send me a formatted disc (plus 
  44. return postage and a self addressed sticky label) with an example of a 
  45. file having the options set that you want and I'll send you back the 
  46. disc with a macro to do the job.  Of course you have to be a PipeLine 
  47. subscriber to take advantage of this free service but I think that's 
  48. only fair.
  49.
